Cook with Rock YouTube Channel Hits Monetization!
Big news—I finally crossed the finish line into YouTube monetization on the @cookwithrock channel, in just under a year. Honestly, it still feels a little wild to say. I started this channel just sharing how I cook in my own backyard—simple recipes, no fluff, nothing overproduced—and somehow it’s grown into this awesome community of people who love food, fire, and flavor as much as I do.
How I Got Here
When I hit upload on my very first video, I had no idea what I was doing. My intro was way too long (seriously, I don’t even know how some of you sat through it), my camera setup was a bit all over the place, and I was basically winging it. But here’s the thing—I kept at it. I recorded, I posted, and I learned as I went. Over time, the channel found its rhythm, and so did I.
Here are a few things that really made a difference along the way:
Authenticity Over Everything
I never wanted to turn this channel into some polished, fake version of myself. From day one, I just hit record and showed exactly how I cook in my backyard. Sometimes that meant a dog barking in the background or me fumbling with tongs, but that’s real life—and people connected with it. Instead of trying to act like a TV chef, I stuck with just being me, and I think that is the biggest reason the channel found an audience.
Learning as I Went
Starting small was a blessing in disguise. I didn’t dump a bunch of money into gear or editing—I just worked with what I had and figured it out one step at a time. Just a smart phone, ring light tripod, and editing software right on my phone. Along the way I discovered little things that made a big difference, like trimming down intros so people actually got to the recipe faster. Every video taught me something, and I tried to get just a little better each week.
Consistency Was Key
This one was tough but huge. I made a promise to myself to post weekly recipes, no excuses. That meant full-length recipe videos, and then I’d cut those down into Shorts to hit a wider audience. Some weeks it felt like a grind, but looking back, it’s what built momentum. Showing up regularly made viewers stick around and made YouTube take the channel more seriously, too. I certainly had a few hiccups along the way, but for the most part I was able to stay pretty consistent.
Engaging With Everyone
I’ve replied to every single comment on my videos—good, bad, or ugly. When someone drops a nice message, I love talking back and swapping ideas. When someone isn’t so nice? I keep it simple: “Thx for watching.” That little reply takes the sting out of the negativity and reminds people I’m here to share, not to fight. And honestly, those quick comments probably helped the algorithm just as much as the kind ones did.
Looking Ahead
Hitting monetization isn’t the end game—it’s just another step. Now I’ve got a chance to reinvest into better gear, keep experimenting with recipes, and grow the community even more. The plan is simple: keep cooking, keep sharing, and keep it fun.
So here’s to the next chapter. If you haven’t yet, check out the channel, hit subscribe, and join in on the journey: Cook with Rock YouTube Channel. The best part about this milestone is knowing there’s so much more still to come.
